Living in Costa Rica can be a dream come true for many. The "pura vida" lifestyle attracts many different people from around the world. Costa Ricans are generally warm and friendly to visitors and foreign residents. However, there are social and cultural dynamics at play when thousands of new residents enter what were previously very rural and secluded agricultural communities. This site will explore these dynamics and will share information gathered from surveying the Costa Rican population with regards to foreigners coming to live in their backyard. The results of these studies will be shared through this blog so that foreigners can integrate in a positive way with the local social landscape and avoid causing some of the negative impacts witnessed in places like Acapulco and other expat & retirement destinations.
